The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 11-17, 2022.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Feb. 16
4:09 p.m., Brakeman Road, Hambden. Ducks in the road.
Feb. 17
5 p.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Caller’s neighbor’s dog attacked caller’s duck. Duck was still alive and neighbor shot it. Caller is upset because she wanted to take it to the vet for treatment.
9:22 p.m., Nash Road, Parkman. Black and white cow missing. Big beef cow. Has been missing since this morning. Unknown direction of travel. Deputy notified.
ASSAULT
Feb. 12
8:31 p.m., Wood Acre Trail, Auburn. Caller reports they had friends over and the friends attacked him. The husband attacked him. Caller refusing EMS. Husband left in minivan with his wife and kids. Caller did not want to file charges.
CITIZEN ASSIST
Feb. 16
10:05 a.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Will be out on a citizen assist. Complainant received a phone call stating he won money and was advised to get $300 in gift cards from Dollar General. He knows it is a scam but is afraid caller may come to his home.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Feb. 11
8:58 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Male at the door making threats to burn it down. Caller states it is her daughter’s boyfriend. Parties are separated. Male is outside yelling still. Male is an adult. Arrested for DV and endangering children.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
Feb. 13
10:37 a.m., White Road, Burton. Husband is not letting her leave the room and is threatening her. Male left the room. Verbal dispute, nothing physical. Two children in house. Ongoing verbal argument over 15 years of marital issues. Will be leaving house for rest of the day.
FRAUD
Feb. 11
11:08 a.m., Ascot Lane, Auburn. Someone opened a new bank account under caller’s name. He received the checks in the mail for it. Caller’s bank froze the account and he is a member of LifeLock. An alert was received from LifeLock in January. No funds missing. IR requested and IR number provided caller and bank. FTC.gov information given as well.
Feb. 15
10:20 a.m., Leader Road, Hambden. Scammer took caller for $2,500 through two bad checks. He is going to be calling back to make transfer of funds. Reported he has been defrauded from a phone scam. Under investigation.
3:49 p.m., Thwing Road, Chardon. Caller thought his financial adviser was telling him to fill out a form for a grant, but he was hacked and the person telling me was not my financial advisor. I gave this person my information. Caller did not provide any account information or a Social Security Number. No funds were transferred or lost. Caller advised to place a credit hold for precautionary purposes.
Feb. 17
5:21 p.m., Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Fraud of $1,565 from checking account. Deputy advised. See report.
SUSPICIOUS
Feb. 14
10:29 a.m., Tracy Lane, Troy. Caller is upset someone turned around in his driveway. Demands to speak to a detective. Unknown if there is damage or vehicle descriptions. Advice given.
10:38 a.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Subject in GCSO lobby to report suspicious, lost property, harassment and fraud. Made complaint against the justice system in Chardon and to clear his name. Last incident involving complainant was in Middlefield Village in 2021. Subject advised to speak with Middlefield PD.
12:09 p.m., Ravenna Road, Auburn. Report of a male walking with a suitcase and a wagon on 44, north from 422. Complainant is concerned for his welfare; did not stop to speak with him. Male checked OK. Advised he is walking to Rhode Island.
1:54 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Out with a male hauling luggage. He advised he was heading to Rhode Island.
THEFT
Feb. 15
4:33 p.m., Nash Road, Troy. Theft through PayPal, delivery of a package. Item of a pair of shoes that was sent to Miami. Package was mailed but no payment has been received. PayPal said to file report. Complainant currently is aware at college. Requesting deputy to call his cell. Report taken.
Feb. 17
10:06 a.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Alarm went off at H&M Landscaping last night at 11 p.m. They noticed this morning a theft of catalytic converters from the trucks. They are checking cameras. Deputy advised. Report taken. Awaiting email from victim’s IT with cam footage.
TRAFFIC CRASH
Feb. 15
11:31 a.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Vehicle just went through the front glass of store. Unknown if anyone is injured. Male was pulling into the Munson Circle K when the rubber boots he was wearing got stuck under the brake pedal causing him to drive through the front of the building. No injuries reported. See report.
THREATENING
Feb. 12
12:14 p.m., GAR Highway, Chardon. Male receiving threatening text messages from unknown number stating he owes them money for requesting sexual favors from his women. Scammer sent photos of guns, said he has hit men unless caller sends $2,000 via Venmo or PayPal. Caller has no idea who or why he was messaged, but wanted it on record. Advice given.
Feb. 14
5:32 p.m., Wilson Mills Road, Munson. Caller was threatened at an AA meeting. Male subject threatened to “knock my “fu%$ing teeth out” and that he was “going to kill the fu%$ing bit@*.” He got upset over money at the meeting. Caller wasn’t going to do anything at first, but then needed to have it documented. He has been putting people down for the past month or so. He has been getting really nasty and this is something stupid. Caller advised male has since been removed from AA and has not returned since.
TRAFFIC STOP
Feb. 11
6:24 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Caller reported a vehicle driving all over the road. Deputy located vehicle and found it was driving left of center, and stopped the vehicle and spoke with driver. Stop explained and driver said he was having a hard time seeing the lines on the road due to the rain. No signs of impairment found. Driver given verbal warning.
