The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office June 2-8, 2023.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
June 3
12 p.m., Nauvoo Road, Middlefield. 20-30 chickens killed by dogs that are across the street.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
June 2
11:23 a.m., Creekside Drive, Auburn. Subject in lobby to report threatening that has been going on for three years. Not a threatening complaint. Neighbor uses obscene language toward complainant and his wife. However, the language is only obscene and no threats are made. Complainant was referred to an attorney for possible civil lawsuit proceedings.
June 4
3:57 p.m., Forest Road, Claridon. Caller wants to make a report for an ongoing neighbor issue. Neighbor has been causing caller a lot of issues. He is constantly complaining about caller’s dogs and is now vandalizing and causing property damage. Additional information was obtained that neighbor will rev his truck motor late at night being disorderly. Complainant advised to try and record it so neighbor can be cited for disorderly conduct.
FRAUD
June 4
12:15 p.m., Washington Street, Auburn. PayPal account was hacked and multiple purchases made from Walmart in different states. PayPal refunded complainant’s money. Information obtained for IR.
June 5
3:05 p.m., Turner Drive, Aquilla. Male in lobby to report fraud. Reported he received a scam ransom email. He received an email that came from his own email account. The email was written as a ransom email wanting complainant to pay $400 in Bitcoin. Complainant stated allegations in email were false. Stated the hacker knew his email password. Already changed his password and did not sent any money to hacker. Complainant given advice to change additional passwords that were linked to his email account. Report for documentation only.
POISONING
June 8
4:52 a.m., Edgewater Drive, Newbury. Elderly female thinks she poisoned herself by accident by taking around 20 Vitafusion vitamins. Newbury Rescue transporting to Geauga Medical Center for overdosing on 20 gummy vitamins. Female stated she was not suicidal, but the gummies tasted very good to her.
SUSPICIOUS
June 6
6:55 a.m., Chardon Road, Chardon. Shirtless male sitting next to All Souls with a stroller. Possibly in his 50s. Dispatch received two calls about male walking down the roadway with a stroller. Deputies located male sitting on side a road taking a break. He is walking to Mentor and stroller had personal items inside. Nothing criminal about incident. Checked OK.
5:32 p.m., Old State Road, Parkman. Maroon Dodge Avenger tinted windows throwing firecrackers at Amish girls walking and passing buggies. Caller was mowing his grass when one was thrown at him. Last seen northbound on 608. Deputy checked surrounding area. UTL/GOA.
THEFT
June 6
5:47 p.m., Edinboro Lane, Auburn. Forged check in complainant’s name for approximately $9,500 was deposited in ATM in St. Paul, Minn. Bank already notified. Complainant needed local report number for the bank.
THREATENING
June 2
1:27 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Contacted caller for moving a shed or a number for someone to move it, sent a message through Facebook Messenger and sent another message threatening to kill a female by putting a bullet into her head. Hasn’t threatened caller but has called caller expletives. No direct threats were made over Facebook. Made contact with other male who was upset with complainant for not wanting to move his shed for him so he made up a fake name of a person. Advice given to both parties.
VAGRANCY
June 5
10:45 a.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Subjects in the gazebo camping, across from the town hall. They have tents and bikes. No crime. Likely the same subjects again.
VANDALISM
June 5
11:51 a.m., Cloverdale Drive, Middlefield. Caller got egged again and needs a deputy to come over. Complainant advised her driveway and vehicle were egged around 1:30 a.m. No cameras and caller cannot park in her garage. Advice given.
June 6
2:26 p.m., Wisner Road, Chardon. Caller advising someone spray painted trees and a phone pole on her property. States there was vandalism done to Holden Arboretum’s property as well and they should be forwarding their report on to GCSO at some point. Deputy advised of pending call. Caller advised her property connects to the area related to the Melonheads conspiracy. She is concerned that due to recent newspaper articles more people will be trespassing in the future. Extra patrol requested during night hours. Photographs taken of damage. No known suspects. Documentation only at this time.
