The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office May 30-June 1, 2023.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
May 30
1:10 p.m., Brookwood Drive, Newbury. Caller is taking care of her uncle’s dog while he is in the hospital. Dog is very aggressive and has a perimeter collar and lives outside. Caller is worried the battery is going to die on the collar and he will be a threat to the neighborhood. Dog warden will not help caller and referred her to Rescue Village, which told her it was not something they handled. Dog is black lab. Dog warden will speak with them.
ASSAULT
May 31
10:53 a.m., Burton Windsor Road, Huntsburg. Elderly male was hit in the face last Thursday by an egg thrown from a vehicle. He went to the hospital at the time and is partially blind now from the incident. Is now requesting a report. Report taken, investigation pending.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
May 31
6:41 p.m., Bell Street, Newbury. Caller would like his 20-year-old stepson removed. They got into a fight because stepson was smoking marijuana in the garage. No injuries, no weapons. Son now starting to argue with his mother. Caller smacked the marijuana out of stepson’s hand and he started hitting caller in the face. Son was taking his mother’s prescribed marijuana an smoking it. He also has tequila in his room. One male arrested for DV and disorderly conduct.
FRAUD
May 30
5:06 p.m., North Pintail Drive, Auburn. Caller was scammed over the phone by someone he thought worked for Amazon. Ultimately sent $3,000 to the unknown person with an Indian accent. Bank was notified about the fraudulent transaction and will assist with disputing payments.
LOST PROPERTY
June 1
10:16 a.m., Nash Road, Troy. Yesterday caller was getting ready for work and left a black briefcase on the trailer fender. It was lost somewhere from Middlefield to Salem. It’s black with a zipper on the outside, no lock. Has the word “Keystone” on it in black on the outside. There was about $1,600 in cash, paperwork for some upcoming and previous jobs, business cards. Already searched area and did not locate it. Advised it was not stolen and just wanted GCSO to be aware.
SUSPICIOUS
May 30
8:49 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Chardon. Per caller, 56 boys between 11-14 throwing rocks at the restroom windows at Mel Harder Park and were inside causing damage. Caller hung up, no further information. Officer out with the boys Check up OK. Clearing shortly.
THEFT
June 1
1:35 p.m., Helmut Drive, Chardon. Would like to speak with an officer for a theft of money/services from a 13-year-old male that she hired to mow the yard and pick up sticks. Stated she paid him $70. She tried to call him and tell him she wanted part of the money back as he did not fulfill the terms of their agreement. Complainant called juvenile court and they told her to file a police report for the theft and they would take it from there.
