The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 11 through March 17. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 380 calls during this seven-day period.
BURGLARY
March 14
8:53 a.m., Berkshire Hills Golf Course, Munson. Possible break in at the maintenance buildings with damage to the property. It appears someone rammed golf carts into the barn doors. It does not appear anything was taken. Also, some of the security signs are damaged. Report taken, no buildings entered. Damage to shed door and two golf carts used.
CITIZEN ASSIST
March 15
9:21 a.m., Golden Pond Drive, Auburn. Would like to show a deputy the direction that they shoot because they get complaints every time that they are shooting at Crackel Road. Deputy spoke with complainant about shooting on their own property. Complainant stated that he sends out an email to the neighbors to let them know when he shoots. Complainant also has a six foot wide dirt mound built where he shoots. Neighbors are still complaining about them shooting on the property. Complainant advised about the shooting laws.
FRAUD
March 17
6:29 p.m., Plank Road, Montville. Caller would like to make a fraud report. She is the victim of a fraud stating that she got a government grant and she paid money for the grant and never got the money from the grant. Deputy advised. Female had been scammed. She received a call that said she won $7,000 but she had to pay the taxes. The female paid $1,700 for “taxes” but never received her money.
HAZMAT
March 15
11:27 a.m., Tavern Road, Parkman. At the oil well’s site, caller has notified State EPA about spill. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources requested that the local fire department be notified. The ODNR are en-route. Not a hazard to the water. Deputy spoke with caller who was on scene. Only about five barrels of oil spilled on the property. No more oil leaking. No oil reached the stream. Clean up crew already on location along with well company.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
March 17
4:10 p.m., Sperry Road, Newbury. The caller advised an hour ago a small brown vehicle hit his garbage can. The driver never stopped, but there are parts of the car in the caller’s yard. No plate was obtained from the vehicle. Deputy spoke to the reporting person on the phone, who advised his garbage was destroyed, however, he does not want a report. The reporting person just wants it noted that his garbage can was on his property and not in the roadway.
SUSPICIOUS
March 15
4:27 p.m., Hunt Road, Huntsburg. Caller states he located a couple of bags off into the woods approximately 50 yards from caller’s residence. Caller advised the bags had beakers in them, along with pills. They appeared to be over the counter medication, latex gloves and tubing. Caller advised deputy where items are located.
WEAPON OFFENSE
March 12
4:29 p.m., Huntley Road, Huntsburg. Caller states that he heard a single gunshot at the property directly across the street from him. He believes that someone may be hunting out of season. Deputy advised. Amish kids target shooting with their father.
