The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriffs Office Jan. 3-9, 2014. In total, the sheriffs office handled 324 calls during this seven-day period.

Citizen Assist

Jan. 8

10:17 a.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Elderly female thinks her doors are frozen on her vehicle and needs assistance. Deputy assisted, gained entry into vehicle, which started prior to deputy departure.

Disorderly

Jan. 4

7:41 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Hambden. Someone threw two snowballs at deputys vehicle. Deputy was stationary in Hambden Inn parking lot running vehicle license plates when unknown person(s) threw two snowballs at deputys vehicle, one striking hood and other struck windshield. Deputy requested additional unit and then entered bar to speak with management. No suspects located. Deputy again spoke with bar owner, who stated he would attempt to control his patrons. Second incident in past month where owner has stated he would remedy problems at bar.

Fraud

Jan. 8

3:29 p.m., Williams Road, Hambden. Callers information was used to make a fraudulent tax claim in the amount of $51,000. The IRS has requested a police report. Report taken.

Harassment

Jan. 4

2:14 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Receiving phone calls from Ohio State Troopers Coalition. Immediately disconnects when the complainant calls back. Caller would like someone to investigate these calls; she imagines others are also receiving them and they are suspicious.

Info Report

Jan. 3

7:45 p.m., State Route 82, Mantua. Caller received a voicemail on her phone. Caller advised there was a lot of yelling and screaming in background, sounded like two men and a woman. Dispatch on line with cell phone owner. Female advised there was an altercation at the Country Inn in Mantua with another female over how much alcohol was served to her husband. Caller states PCSO was at the location and handled.

Suspicious

Jan. 5

6:02 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Possibly a homeless man sitting on the sidewalk by the mens room at BP. Male was wrapping newspaper or plastic around his feet. Caller requesting him to be checked on. No cause for alarm. Also spoke with workers in business and they stated he is here all the time and doesnt cause any problems.

Jan. 8

1:16 p.m., Cornelia Drive, Aquilla. Blue pickup with cab on back with Iowa Steak Company on it was going door to door, with two white males. One skinny man with baseball cap and missing teeth said he would sell her a box of meat for $400. He advised they had no business cards; he wanted her to write a check or use debit card. They also offered to follow her to the bank or have a family member give her the money. She is concerned because they were really pushy. Request for area to be checked and check subjects out.

3:46 p.m., Queens Way, Auburn. Someone used callers name to get all incoming calls transferred to a cell phone that doesnt belong to the company. Someone contacted Windstream and routed the companys phone number to a pre-paid cell number; a password was set up on the companys account.

Theft

Jan. 3

3:54 p.m., Old State Road, Claridon. Caller has an egg stand; there is a box where money is put in for the eggs. Someone broke the lock on the box and took money. Caller believes $50 to $80 was taken. No suspects.
