Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 17-23. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 308 calls during this seven-day period.
Agency Assist
Jan. 19
12:20 a.m, Lake Shore Drive, Newbury. Caller for agency assistance on Lake Shore. One male arrested and transported to Russell PD. Staff page sent with update apprehended suspect. Suspect located and apprehended early hours of Jan. 22. Sheriffs office personnel stood by at scene until search warranted executed by Russell PD and Geauga County Prosecutor’s Office. Search complete; scene cleared.
Disorderly
Jan. 19
1:11 a.m., Water Street, Chardon. Report of a possible fight or disturbance at the beverage/bar. Verbal argument. Male was highly intoxicated and was staring down other patrons. He left.
Harassment
Jan. 19
11:06 p.m., Bell Street, Newbury. Caller believes a female has been using the caller’s name and taking pictures off of her accounts, creating new accounts and then taking nude pictures and saying they are her. Caller is now getting other people inquiring about these pictures. Caller tried calling her and she will not answer. Caller went to school with her. No report; no present crime. Advice given. Caller will follow up with Google.
Juvenile Problem
Jan. 23
10:41 a.m., Edwards Street, Parkman. Last Wednesday my daughter was unruly and now JFS is involved and I need a police report. She is 13 years old and currently at school. JFS said to call police and file charges for unruly. Deputy provided mother of child advice on how to discipline her children when they don’t get what they want and whine and complain about not getting their way. Complainant stated incident took place eight days ago, at which time she never contacted PD. Deputy advised mother to stand firm in making disciplinary choices, not let her children control the household as they are not alleged to be doing and contact police when events happen, not eight days later.
Suspicious
Jan. 17
11:16 a.m., Stone Road, Newbury. Complainant in the lobby is stating the property on Beechland Drive in Newbury is a junk yard. He needs advice on where to go to get the area cleaned up.
Threatening
Jan. 21
10:30 a.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Request deputy respond at 11:30 a.m. to speak to students and parents regarding threats a student made last Thursday. They are suspending the student and parents agree the students needs to be spoken to by police. Deputy advised. Deputy spoke with child about an incident in which he used a rock and hand during a game as if he was holding a weapon. The student promised this would not happen again. Deputy spoke with the principal and parents who advised the child was receiving counseling. No further action was requested.
11:21 a.m., Hayes Road, Middlefield. Complainant in lobby. Threatening and harassment by Internet and at residence. Deputy advised. Complainant requested information about teenage daughter talking to older men on the Internet. Advice given.
Trespassing
Jan. 18
4:45 p.m., Club Lane, Auburn. Auburn Lakes president requesting assistance with two ice fisherman on the center of Auburn Lake. Ice fishing is not permitted and they have been asked to leave and refuse. Spoke with male who stated his grandparents live in Auburn Lakes. They were advised to have written permission and check the rules of the community in the future.
Weapons Offense
Jan. 20
12:10 p.m., GAR Highway, Montville. Wildlife tip to game warden is advising of juveniles shooting a .22 across Route 6. The tip was original hunting without permission. Request deputy to respond. Responded to location and identified three juveniles. They admitted to hunting but denied shooting across Route 6. All parties identified and cards left for parents. Complainant was called back and all information given to him for possible follow up through department of wildlife. IR only.
