The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriffs Office July 19-25. In total, the sheriffs office handled 495 calls during this seven-day period.

Animal Problem

July 19

9:05 p.m., Munn Road, Newbury. Horse loose in the area. Last seen going southbound from callers address. Very large black horse with white socks. Owner advised they caught the horse; no assistance needed.

July 23

6:02 a.m., Butternut Road, Newbury. When driving into work, she noticed about 5-6 pet rabbits at the end of the driveway. She said they appeared to be someones pet and not wild rabbits. UTL/GOA.

July 24

3:53 p.m., Clover Lake Drive, Newbury. Someone shot our cat on Sunday. Believe it came from across the street. Cat shot in left leg. Owners heard gunshots as they walked around 8 p.m. Sunday. Cat limped home Tuesday. Checked with neighbors. No leads.

Citizen Assist

July 19

5:57 p.m., Venus Road, Hambden. Neighbor puts his garbage out late, animals get in it and it ends up all over neighborhood. Gave advice. Complainant stated he would call township trustees.

July 20

8:26 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Thompson. Caller states her husband recently joined the police academy and purchased handcuffs. Caller states he put them on and now cannot get them off. Caller will meet deputy at entrance to Rustic Pines. Freed subject of cuffs.

Disorderly

July 23

7:56 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson. Three members of PETA have shown up at the circus and are trying to force their way into the restricted tent area. Talk with the subject at the ticket booth and they will direct the deputy in. No disturbance located. Subjects spoken to about staying away from restricted areas.

Explosives

July 24

11:22 p.m., Leggett Road, Montville. Someone put a possible Drano bomb in his mailbox. There is a Mountain Dew bottle in the mailbox and was smoking. Callers wife heard a car drive off and then heard the explosion. 2-liter bottle in mailbox with aluminum foil inside bottle. Mailbox not damaged heavily and still functional. No suspects or vehicle description provided. Complainant stated he does not have any problems with any persons who may be responsible. Deputy checked area and passed two vehicles on way to call; however, neither vehicle contained teens or young adults that are commonly responsible for such acts. Complainant wanted it documented in case future incidents take place. Deputy advised complainant to discard bottle in trash.

Suspicious

July 22

8:52 p.m., U.S. 422, Auburn. Son advised when he was on Auburn Road a black Toyota Camry flew up behind him, riding his bumper. At 87 light. Deputy pulled over and spoke with all parties. Complainant advised they were being followed. Spoke with other vehicle and they advised the complainant ran through a red light on Auburn Road and Washington. Other driver followed the vehicle attempting to contact Portage SO, OSHP and then the Geauga County Sheriffs Office. Both parties were advised of the complaint and advised how to properly handle the situation into the future.

Threatening

July 22

11:53 p.m., Claridon Troy Road, Claridon. Ex-fiance is sending threatening text messages. She is threatening him with organized crime. He cannot turn off his phone because he is on call for the railroad he works for. He said he does not want to press charges. He would just like her to stop. A phone call would be sufficient.

Traffic Hazard

July 19

4:46 a.m., Bundysburg Road, Huntsburg. Cow in the roadway on Bundysburg between Pioneer and Burton Windsor. Resident in area helped move the cow to a stall until it can be secured by owner.
