On a gloomy and rainy weekend morning many local area schools participated in the CVC Cross Country meet hosted at Cardinal High School.
On the boys’ side, West Geauga’s Matt Dienes claimed first place with a time of 16:04.02, his second win in three weeks.
Teammate Ian Res also finished in the top three, while sophomore Jacob Williams finished 5th. The Wolverines placed second in the Lake Division. Madison finished first, finding success in their first season in the CVC.
Hawken claimed the Chagrin Division with their top four runners finishing first through 4th. Senior Nick Garcia-Whitko finished with a team best time of 16:06.81. His teammates Parker Carrus who placed second finished with a time of 16:34.22 while Chase Levey and Sam Cohen rounded out the top four.
Chagrin Falls also finished in the top ten with sophomore Zach Huey coming in at the 17:17.07 mark. His team finished third in the Chagrin Division.
Although Independence claimed first place for the Valley Division, it was Cuyahoga Heights’ senior Bradyn Rusch who claimed the individual title with a time of 17:16.13.
Berkshire finished second with Owen Zaumeyer and Issaac Burden pacing the way for the Badgers.
Baumeyer placed fourth with a time of 18:23.12, while Burden finished in the top 16 earning himself a medal.
“I was pretty pleased with our performance,” said Zaumeyer. “We didn’t catch the main guy we wanted to catch, but we beat most of the other guys, so that felt really good.”
Leading the way for the Huskies was sophomore Sam Gdovichin. He finished just behind Rusch, placing second overall. His teammate Oliver Kumher also finished in the top 16, finishing just outside the top 10 at 13th.
“I was pleased with today,” said Kumher. “My coach, Mike Humphrey and I have been building a game plan, and I was able to execute that game plan. And as a team, we all support each other. Sam pushes me, and that is part of the game plan. Stay with Sam for the first mile, and he pushes me to do my best.”
The Huskies finished 4th overall, and are hoping to carry positive momentum to earn a chance at regionals after this weekend.
