For the fourth year in a row, the Badgers seem to be untouchable against the Huskies. In those four games, the Badgers have outscored the Huskies 33-5, including a 12-0 victory Sept. 13.
The Badgers got on the board first about two minutes into the contest. Another shot attempted by Berkshire’s Jack Jacobs put Cardinal’s defense on its heels. Jacobs would get a second chance, and extend the Badgers’ lead to two.
“Our game plan was really simple,” said Joey Czekaj. “We wanted to try to possess, and play our game, the way we have been all season.”
Another goal recorded by Jacobs would make the score 4-0 within five minutes of play. The Huskies attempted a goal by Tyler Rowan with 27 minutes remaining, but a save from Jack Starr helped the Badgers hold their 5-0 lead.
Goals by sophomore Levi Rohl, junior Johnny Murphy, and seniors Mike Romask and Jacob Landrus stretched the Badgers lead to 9-0 before the half.
“There were a lot of give-and-go’s in the midfield, which also helped a lot,” said Jacobs.
A penalty kick attempted by Gavin Russell lengthened Coach Nick Fejedelem’s lead, and with 8:37 remaining in the contest, the Badgers scored their 12th goal of the evening.
Berkshire’s offense was rolling in the rivalry matchup with nine Badgers scoring in the contest, including Aiden Pollack, Joey Czekaj, Mike Romask, Jacob Landrus, Roman Percic, Levi Rohl, Gavin Russell, Johnny Murphy and Jack Jacobs, scoring a team-high four goals.
“We are very happy with the game tonight,” said Berkshire Assistant Coach Joshua Parr. “Great to have another CVC win. We are very excited that several players on our team scored their first goal for the season, and I’m sure they are as well.”
With the win, Berkshire improves its record to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the Chagrin Valley Conference. With the loss, the Huskies drop to 0-8.
Troy Hornak led his team with two assists, while Starr recorded a team-high three saves along with Jacobs, and Percic recorded a save.
Czekaj said his team’s main game plan was to feed Jacobs, who’s on track to set a new record this season.
The Badgers will have two tough opponents in Kirtland and Euclid on Tuesday and Thursday.
“Looking forward, we have a few key games coming up and are excited as we get into the second half of our season,” Parr said.
