West Geauga Head Coach Matt Rosati has been placed on administrative leave by the school district, according to a news release from the athletic department.
West Geauga Head Football Matt Rosati responded to the allegations of inappropriate conduct on Wednesday afternoon through his lawyer, Vincent Calo. In an email, Calo denies any and all allegations against Rosati.
“While we have not been presented with the specific allegations made against Mr. Rosati other than through your media publication and others, our initial investigation yields that this matter is nothing more than the cliché of a few disgruntled parents and players who are unhappy about playtime and roles on a football team,” Calo writes. “This has resulted in an appalling attempted character assassination and witch hunt impugning Mr. Rosati’s stellar reputation and integrity as a teacher, coach, and leader in the community. These allegations will be defended to the greatest extent possible.”
Rosati was been placed on administrative leave by the school district, according to a news release from the athletic department.
“A serious matter was recently brought to our attention regarding our football program,” the release stated.
On Oct. 9, “the administration received an allegation of inappropriate conduct. The allegation reported is of a non-sexual nature.” School administration is investigating the matter with players and staff as coach Eric Stendalen takes over the team.
According to several sources familiar with the matter, the inappropriate conduct allegedly involves Wolverine players stealing a football from a football camp. Geauga County Prosecutor Jim Flaiz and Chester Township Police Chief Craig Young said the alleged conduct is not criminal in nature and no criminal investigation is underway.
The Wolverines have had a disappointing season at 2-6 this year.
The team plays two more games against Perry Oct. 18 and Orange Oct. 25.
