Volunteers Sought for New Park District Advisory Committee
Geauga County Probate Court Judge Tim Grendell is looking to form a new advisory committee to assist him in assuring the park district’s compliance with Ohio Revised Code Chapter 1545 and to provide community input to the judge relating to the Geauga Park District Board of Commissioners’ operation and management of county parks.
Under Ohio law, the county probate court judge has the express power to appoint and remove park commissioners serving on county and township park districts created under O.R.C. Chapter 1545, and the implied power to investigate park operations to determine if a park commissioner should be removed.
In order to ensure that all community perspectives are heard, the new advisory committee will consist of Geauga County residents who represent each of the following: seniors (2), families with young children, Amish, conservation (2), game management and recreation (2).
Responsibilities will include attendance at advisory committee meetings three times per year to review GPD actions and activities, and to provide community input to Grendell relating to the county park board’s operation and management of county parks.
The committee chair, who will meet with Grendell three times per year in addition to attending the committee meetings, will communicate such input to the judge.
Participation on the advisory committee, as selected, will be voluntary and on an annual basis.
County residents interested in participating on this committee should contact Kim Laurie at 440-279-1868.
