Chardon Senior Trash Pickup

May 26 and 27

Chardon Township Trustees are joining the Geauga County Department on Aging to offer senior trash pickup days to Chardon seniors ages 60 and older.

Seniors who wish to receive trash pickup assistance must first register with the department on aging, live in Chardon and complete the trash pickup intake by May 19 or earlier.

Road crew and department on aging staff cannot enter homes. Items must be placed outside the garage, home or driveway on May 25, the evening before the pickup. Do not leave items curbside. There is a limit of 10 items per household.

For specific allowable trash guidelines or to register, call 440-279-2130.

Tax Program Assists 522 Seniors

The Geauga County Department on Aging provided free tax preparation services to 522 seniors during the 2025 filing season, the highest total since the program began in 2011.

The program is led by tax volunteer local coordinator Matthew O’Hearn III, with support from volunteers Paul O’Neill, Mary Kay O’Toole, Mary Liggett and Ed Kraus. All volunteers are certified through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs.

The service helps older adults, particularly those with low-to-moderate incomes, file accurate returns and access eligible credits at no cost.
