NDCL Students Seek Solutions

On March 24, eight NDCL students and health and physical education teacher Mr. Robert McBrayer were the guests of the City Club of Cleveland forum on strategies to address Ohio’s opioid crisis.

Experts in addiction recovery, healthcare and law enforcement shared their perspectives on solutions to stem the tragic tide of fatal overdoses.

Ohio is considered “ground zero” in the public health battle against opioid addiction. In 2016, more than 500 people died from opioid overdoses in Cuyahoga County alone.

Work Hard, Play Hard, Give Back

Dale and Lina Penkauskas Wollschleger, both 1995 graduates of NDCL, have generously committed to a $313,000 gift to fund the school’s new weight training and wellness center.

The Wollschleger Weight Training and Wellness Center will transform the space currently housing the weight room, trainer’s office and health classroom into a sleek, contemporary facility that will reflect the quality of NDCL’s athletic program and the aspirations of student-athletes.

“Being fortunate enough to give back to such an incredible school makes Lina and me happy,” said Dale. “I want to make an impact in students’ lives just as NDCL athletics made an impact in my life.”

He added, “I hope the new weight room and wellness center inspire and motivate all student-athletes to ‘Work Hard, Play Hard.’”

In 2009, Dale founded ExactCare Pharmacy, which provides innovative medication management solutions for health care organizations and patients nationwide. For the third consecutive year, ExactCare was named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in the United States.

“Dale and Lina’s gift is the first major donation from NDCL alumni,” President Sister Jacquelyn Gusdane noted. “We are deeply grateful for their generosity, foresight and commitment to NDCL, and look forward to other NDCL graduates following their lead.”

Design development for the Wollschleger Weight Training and Wellness Center will begin soon, with construction to occur during the 2017-2018 school year.
