8th-Grade Visits Nation’s Capital
On April 25, NDES eighth-graders embarked on their annual trip to Washington, D.C. While there, the students visited and experienced many of the highlights of our nation’s capital.
The students visited the Iwo Jima Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, where they witnessed the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. On day two, they toured many sites including the Pentagon, and Lincoln, Korean and Vietnam memorials.
At the Capitol Building, students met with U.S. Congressman David Joyce followed by a special prayer service at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception led by Deacon Vince Belsito.
On Thursday, students toured the battlefields at Gettysburg and visited the Flight 93 Memorial before returning home.
4th-Grade Business Fair
After months of hard work, NDES fourth graders put their entrepreneurial skills to use at the annual NDES Business Fair held April 26. First, students designed a product – Lily’s Squishes – to sell. Then, they determined a price based upon costs and projected profits. Finally, they developed persuasive advertising posters and sales pitches.
All NDES students visited the Business Fair and shopped for a variety of handmade products priced between $1 and $5, raising $2,095. The proceeds of the program benefit the St. Julie School in Uganda, Africa.
