Geauga Dairymen
On May 21, Geauga Dairymen 4-H Club held a meeting at Hastings Dairy. It began with old business and the club’s current balances. After that, members talked about their candy bar sales and how they sold all of them.
They also discussed events that need to be planned out for a later date, including the club’s community service act. Members decided not to do yard cleanup this year and try something different. Instead, they are doing blankets for veterans and donating money to less fortunate families so they can enjoy a day at fair. The club is very excited to be able to help in all possible ways.
As everyone knows, summer is coming up, which also means members’ cows are coming soon. They discussed who was getting which cow and where the cow was staying – Niehus house or Hastings. The cows should be coming in early June, so the club held an educational meeting on working with the animals and farm safety. After, members discussed skillathon and its dates. Finally, the group did a recreational activity and visited with each other. It was a very fun and informational meeting. (Submitted by Lizzie Knopp, news reporter)
Geauga Beef & Swine
The Geauga Beef & Swine 4-H Club met on May 21 at the school building on the Geauga County Fairgrounds. Meghan Martin presented her swine digestive system report to the club. Taylor Poff did a presentation on “Getting Your Steer Ready for the Show” and Tatumn Poff did a presentation on beef health maintenance.
Next month, the club will be taking up collections for Fighting Hunger. Members discussed skillathon, which will be held on July 15, and went over what needs to be completed in their swine project books. Handouts were passed out pertaining to pigs, beef and poultry for the club members to review.
The Cloverbuds hid the rocks that they had painted at the previous meeting on the fairgrounds. The public can follow the rocks on Northeast Ohio Rocks on Facebook. If anyone finds one on the fairgrounds, take a picture of it and post it on Facebook and then hide it somewhere else.
The next meeting is June 10 on the fairgrounds. (Submitted by Tatumn Poff, news reporter)
