Class of 2030 Starts School
The Class of 2030 is officially in school. The kindergarteners arrived for their first day of school on Aug. 23 eager to begin their schooling careers.
It was a busy first day for the students with teachers in each room laying the groundwork for a successful year. In Ms. Ross’s room, students were learning about proper hygiene practices. Students in Mrs. Dyer’s class were taking a look at their supply boxes. Mrs. Derecskey’s class was reviewing classroom rules, and in Mrs. Skolnik’s class, students were participating in a fun round of Simon Says. They’re off to a great start and doing well.
Students Experience Solar Eclipse
Third- and fourth-grade classes had a chance to witness celestial history during the solar eclipse on Aug. 21. Students began the year learning about the sun, Earth and moon. Using a yellow exercise ball as the sun, students learned about the orbits of the Earth and the moon and how they all align to create an eclipse.
Third grade teacher Barb Tropf helped students who had permission to view the eclipse make pinhole projection viewers out of cereal boxes. To make the viewers, students cut square holes on opposite sides of the box, one side was covered by aluminum foil and a pinhole was poked in it. A piece of white paper was put in the bottom of the box to project on. Students then took the boxes outside during the eclipse and with their backs to the sun, they were able to see the sun, eclipse and even the clouds in the bottom of their box.
Mural Painted For Local Business
Prior to the end of last school year, Arms Trucking contacted the district to see if any art students would be interested in painting a mural for its headquarters, which is located in the former Claridon Elementary School. High school students Jordan W., Katlyn L., Adriana N., Morgan S., Anna A. and Emily S. all agreed to help and volunteered their time over the summer to create a beautiful, finished product. Teacher Mrs. Alvord says she’s so proud of the work the girls produced and the initiative they took to get the project finished.
