Chagrin River Bird Quest

Get two or more people together and dedicate a day to exploring the Chagrin River Valley from one’s backyard to Lake Erie south to the Aurora branch in search of feathered fall residents and migrants.

To register for the Chagrin River Bird Quest or learn more, visit www.clevelandaudubon.org. Then plan to visit The West Woods Nature Center on Sept. 22, from 4-6 p.m., to pick up one’s team check-in and final registration, as well free maps, checklists and T-shirts and to talk strategy with teammates and naturalists.

Official hours of the marathon are Friday at 4 p.m. until Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Then, return to The West Woods Nature Center on Sept. 23, from 4-6:30 p.m., for a finale celebration complete with checklist judging, hearty refreshments, awards and door prizes.

The Chagrin River Bird Quest is a Nature’s Not to Be Missed activity. It is Geauga Park District’s first year with the quest.

Autumn Splendor Corks & Canvas

Sept. 23, 6:30-9 p.m.

Join artist Linda Merchant to paint an autumn woodland scene with a pathway while enjoying wine and snacks during the Autumn Splendor Corks & Canvas workshop at The West Woods’ scenic Affelder House.

Fee is $35; registration is required for adults 21 and older.

No experience is necessary; all instruction, materials and refreshments will all be included in the fee. Learn more about the instructorat www.lamgallery.com.

Fall Flower Foray

Sept. 23, 10-11:30 a.m.

Naturalist Judy Bradt-Bartnhart will lead a leisurely stroll on paved paths below sandstone cliffs and among towering prairie plants and diverse native fall flowers at Orchard Hills, a former golf course property. No registration is required.
