Homecoming Week

NDCL students celebrated a week of Disney-themed homecoming events including daily games and themed lunch menus. On Sept. 29, 130 younger siblings joined the festivities and were treated to a face painter, magician and lively school spirit at an all-school pep rally.

Banner School Distinction

The Cleveland Clinic recently honored Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin with its prestigious Banner School distinction. NDCL is one of only two Catholic high schools in a four-state region to earn the Banner School designation.

According to the Clinic’s website, Banner Schools meet stringent implementation and participation criteria to maximize student enrichment and promote continuous programmatic improvement. Fewer than 26 percent of the 159 schools in four states that participated in 2016-17 Civic Education programming earned the Banner School designation.

Mr. Bryan Pflaum, the Clinic’s director of civic education, visited campus this summer to present the award to Principal Joseph A. Waler. The Cleveland Clinic Banner School award now hangs proudly in the first-floor corridor near displays of students’ award-winning entries in Clinic programs.

In recent years, nearly 30 NDCL students have been selected to participate in the Clinic’s prestigious and competitive summer internship programs. NDCL’s students have also excelled in the Clinic’s eXpressions program, which engages students in interpreting their peers’ scientific research through art, language and math.
Last winter, juniors Augie King and Zach Urda won the eXpressions Best in Show Award in Mathematics—the competition’s highest honor. The team of seniors Reagan Hoyt, Haley Otto, and Alyssa Rice and junior Valerie Raicevich won blue ribbons in the math competition for their project focusing on brain research. McKenna Randall ’17 won a blue ribbon, Caroline Pavlish ’17 a white ribbon and senior Katherine Busch an honorable mention for their entries in the eXpressions art competition.
