Ken Ludwig’s “Leading Ladies” is a comedy about two English Shakespearean actors who find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing “Scenes from Shakespeare” on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they hear that an old lady in York, Pa., is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is, when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren’t nephews, but nieces. Romantic entanglement abound.

Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Kenston High School, Lee Auditorium.

All tickets are $8 and all seats are reserved.

The high school speech season has started. Kenston’s Speech and Debate Team, taking 10 first time high school competitors, traveled to Carrollton High School for the first novice tournament of the year.

Continuing their success from their middle school days, the Public Forum debate team of Marcus Novak and Okan Kardzhala were crowned tournament champions.

Also taking home awards were Kylee Pierson and Skylar Cinch, who placed second and third, respectively, in Dramatic Interpretation. Brennan Fisher, Henry Cregar, Ben Millard and Nick Sanchez all won their first ever high school debate. Putting forth a strong effort in Congressional Debate and Declamation were Colin Varga and Jessie Kirschman.

Varsity team members Tia Speece, Sam Selent and Savannah Georgian served as judges for the novices.

Read for the Record

Students at Kenston’s Timmons Elementary School participated in Read for the Record, a shared reading experience. The national campaign highlights the importance of early literacy and language skills for every child.

Auditor Award with Distinction

Kenston’s most recent financial audit by Auditor of State Dave Yost’s office returned a clean audit report. Kenston’s excellent record keeping has earned it the Auditor of State Award with Distinction.

To earn a “clean” audit report and receive an award, school districts must file timely financial reports in the form of a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report; the audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, single audit findings or questioned costs; and the management letter contains no comments related to ethics referrals, questioned costs less than $10,000, findings for recovery less than $100 and public records or meetings.
