Energized Guyz Electrify

“Open your eyes, be energy wise” was the overriding theme during a special assembly for K-4 students at Jordak Elementary School on Oct. 18. Nikki Neuron and The Energized Guyz took over the gym on a mission to stop energy from being wasted.

During the 25-minute skit, Nikki and students learned important lessons about resources and conservation – even convincing the crafty villain, the Sneaker, to join the cause in conserving energy. Students and teachers all received items to expand on the lessons in class.

Thanks to the The National Theatre for Children and First Energy for providing such a fun and informative program for the students.

Solid, Liquid, Gas

First-grade students had a visit from science guy Claire Zurbuch on Oct. 26. Mr. Z helped them discover how to identify a solid, liquid and gas by measurements. In Mrs. Maxwell’s class, Mr. Z split students into groups to visit different stations. At each station, students had to measure something, record the results and then determine if what they weighed was a solid, liquid or a gas.

Veterans Day Assembly

Students at Jordak Elementary School honored veterans on Nov. 10 with a special ceremony. They heard several songs from the choir, including the national anthem, “My Country Tis of Thee” and “Americans We.”

The Burton-Middlefield American Legion Post 459 and Auxiliary performed a special flag ceremony, giving the final folded symbol to Principal Kelly Bearer for display at the school. Staff Sgt. Rolf Hamrick, grandfather to Emma, Abby and Natalie S., also spoke to students about his time in the service and shared a tale about a parachute jump that almost didn’t end so well.

The ceremony ended with a slideshow featuring veterans of JES students and staff. It was a beautiful tribute to those who have served and everyone left feeling extremely proud.
