How To Handle It All Workshop
Jan. 18, 7 p.m.
Teens in grades 6-12 and their parents can sign up for a workshop on balancing school work, other responsibilities and a social life. Life coach Natalie Borrell will share tips on how to use time effectively. She will focus on avoiding distractions using apps and routines to keep students on track.
National Pie Day Celebration
Jan. 23, 7 p.m.
Adults will learn some tips and tricks about pie making and get information about local baking contests and fairs at this sweet event. Samples will be shared. Can’t make the program? Stop by the library for a free slice of pie from 12-6 p.m.

Time Is Up

Youth in grades 3-5 may come prepared to balance, stack and more as they test their skills in the library’s Minute-to-Win-it style challenges.
James A. Garfield and Civil Rights
Jan. 18, 7 p.m.
The program traces James Garfield’s various attitudes toward African-Americans, his interactions with African-Americans while in the Union Army and in Congress; his eloquent and determined support of the civil, political and voting rights of blacks during Reconstruction and in the years that followed. Presented by the James A. Garfield National Historic Site.
Chardon (Quilt) Block Party
Jan. 20, 9:30-11 a.m.
The block party meets on the third Saturday of the month. Each block party will feature a demonstration on a special sewing project or quilt block, a show-and-tell for participants who want to showcase their own projects and snacks. Participants will be able to share expertise, request future demonstrations on projects of interest, and find out what the library has to offer in the field of fiber arts.
Benefits of Dogs for Seniors
Jan. 20, 2 p.m.
Meet Alan and his senior therapy dog Shawn and learn how Shawn went from zero to hero as a rescued abandoned dog. Learn the latest research in health benefits for dog ownership and the right mix of activity and interaction to benefit seniors and their four-legged companion. UH Pet Pals and Rescue Village will have ambassador dogs to meet and greet everyone. Appropriate adoptable dogs will also be on hand as available for anyone seeking a furry exercise partner.
Adult Coloring Club

Encore NEO, a local nonprofit, has teamed with the Geauga County Public Library system to help pave the way. Attend the session to share one’s challenges and learn about the unique support people can receive in finding meaning, flexibility and financial freedom in their “Encore Careers.”
