GLT Actors Visit CHS
Great Lakes Theater’s in-school residency program is one of the most successful artist-in-residence programs in the country. Each year when the residency program visits Chardon High School, they work on a variety of plays so language and theater arts students are able to experience the pleasure, power and relevance of classic literature brought to life right in their own classrooms.
Last week, CHS students worked on “Hamlet,” “Othello,” “Macbeth” and “Julius Caesar.” Using an interactive, hands on approach, the team of specially trained actor-teachers spent five consecutive days bringing the curriculum into action. The actors brought scripts, props and costumes to turn the students into an acting troupe, exploring classic literature from an actor’s point of view. And, students can translate the confidence and teamwork skills that theater teaches into any career they choose.
CHS AfterProm
It is that time of year when the high school begins to make the Afterprom theme come to life. Join in the planning and decorating workshops as often as one wishes. Volunteers will be able to contribute whether they consider themselves creative or not.
There is much to do and many ways to participate. There will be a meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 in the CHS Media Center. Decorating workshops will begin the first week of March on Wednesdays from 7-9 p.m. in the upper gym and Mondays and Wednesdays in April and May.
AfterProm is May 19.
Collecting Red Knit Baby Hats
In conjunction with Maple Elementary School’s Annual Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser, the school will also be collecting donations of knitted red baby hats to be delivered to area hospitals in February in honor of The American Heart Association and Heart Health Awareness month.
The American Heart Association is a non-profit organization that funds innovative research, fights for stronger public health policies, and provides critical tools and information to improve lives.
Maple Elementary is dedicating the event to all who have been affected by heart disease. If you have questions, email Maple/Park physical education teacher Mary Pat Martin at marypat.martin@chardonschools.org
For information on the types of hats, patterns and yarn, go to the American Heart Association website.
