Record Breaking Seasons
It was a record breaking season for both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams this year. Not only did they both have fantastic regular seasons, but several players have broken and/or tied school records.
Along with shattering her mom’s single-season rebound record with 298, junior Camille C. also set the single-season block record with 65 this year. Fellow junior Ashley G. broke the school record for number of assists in a single game with 10 and then tied the school record for number of 3-pointers in a game with five.
On the boys side, senior Luke T. makes history with a career free-throw percentage of 82 percent and junior Robbie B. has tied the school record for 3-pointers in a single game four times in two seasons with six.
Congratulations to our outstanding athletes on career seasons. Winter athletes will be recognized at the winter sports banquet on March 20 in the CHS multipurpose room. There is a $5 fee at the door; winter athletes and coaches are free. The Hunger Squad will cater the event. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Rotary Speech Competition
Congratulations to our CHS students who participated in the Rotary Club of Burton Middlefield 4-Way Test Speech Contest Feb. 14. Students who participated were junior Kailyn F., senior Brendan W. and sophomore Abby G.
Rotary awards monetary prizes for the top three speeches. Brendan took third place for his speech on the “Me Too” movement and Kailyn delivered a speech on being too easily offended and took first place. She earned a $500 monetary prize and will advance to the district level competition at Aurora High School on April 7. Abby’s speech was on the power of first impressions.
Thank you to Dave Terrill and the other members of Rotary for offering this excellent opportunity for our students.
CHS Forensic Science
The high school is halfway through a new semester, which means a new group of students is investigating in the CHS forensic science class. The first assignment is learning about and analyzing the different types of fingerprints.
Students spent the lab perfecting techniques of ink prints, latent prints using dust, chemical printing and pulling prints using tape. They transferred their work to a 10s card and used the information to eliminate suspects and ID a criminal in a fictitious crime scene.
