Grandparents Summer Picnic

June 8, 12-1:30 p.m.

Grandparents and grandchildren will enjoy a day together in the new Claridon Woodlandspark with a picnic and nature activities in collaboration with the Chardon Senior Center, which provides hot dogs. Please bring a dessert or side dish to share.

Rides around the park will also be given on the EZ Go Cart. Please bring a dessert or side dish to share.

Registration is required. Claridon Woodlands is located at 11383 Claridon Troy Road.

Nights Out In The Parks

Nights Out in the Parks returns on special Saturdays in June, July and August – three outdoor movie nights and four scenic amphitheater shows, all completely free for all.

Observatory Park hosts all three movies, shown on a giant inflatable screen under internationally recognized dark skies. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Themed activities and free popcorn and lemonade begin at 8 p.m., and each film starts at dark. Geauga County Public Library’s Fun Bus is also on hand.

The season’s first two movies will be “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” on June 23, and “Peter Rabbit” on July 14.

The third movie on Aug. 11 will be either “Casablanca,” “Grease,” “Back to the Future” or “Apollo 13.” Voting between the four options will be held June 1 to July 14 online and during the first two movie nights.

As for live music, Big Creek Park’s Frances S. Hall Amphitheater is the place to be, hosting all four amphitheater shows, 7-8:30 p.m.: Erie Heights Brass Ensembleon June 9, Northern Comfort Band on July 7, Long Time Gone on July 28, and Upriver on Aug. 25. Shows will include refreshments and be moved indoors in case of inclement weather.

Observatory Park is located at 10610 Clay St. in Montville Township; Big Creek Park is located at 9160 Robinson Road in Chardon Township.
