Outdoor Adventure Camps
Registration is open – but limited – for adventures including biking, kayaking, fishing, stream exploration and sending rockets high into the sky.
Geauga Park District’s sixth annual camps are offered in weeklong forms for youth entering grades five through seven the weeks of June 25, July 9, July 16, July 30 and Aug. 6. A junior naturalist camp will also take place the week of June 11 for this age group.
Weeklong experiences for teens entering grades eight through 10 will be the weeks of June 18 and July 23. Single day X-Treme Adventures for the older kids will also be held July 2 and 5 (kayak challenge) and July 3 and 6 (high ropes challenge).

Run Like A Caveman
June 10
Registration is now open for Geauga Park District’s eighth annual trail-pounding, Caveman Crawl 5K Trail Run & 1-Mile Fun Walkat The West Woods. All ages are welcome.
Race day registration starts at 7 a.m., with the race beginning at 9 a.m., with free food and awards afterwards. Early sign-up guarantees a race T-shirt and reduced fee of $20.
Come dressed in prehistoric garb for a chance, at 8:30 a.m., to win a special handcrafted Best Costume award in youth or adult categories. Perfect Occasion Costumes and Magic in Middlefield is offering 15 percent off retail merchandise and 20 percent off rentals for Caveman Crawl costumes.
All funds benefit the Chip Henry Institute for Outdoor Adventure.
The West Woods is located at 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township. Overflow parking with a free shuttle to the park will be at ASM International, also on Route 87, followed by Wiegand’s Lake Park.
West Woods Wednesdays
June 13, 4-7 p.m.
Geauga Park District’s West Woods Wednesdays Farm Market moves this summer to the second Wednesday of each month, June to September – a one-stop shop for all farm-fresh needs.
On top of vendors providing all kinds of locally made/grown items, strolling musicians will provide ambient music – Jesse Huge in June and August and Rebecca Wohlever in July and September – plus, an onsite food truck will serve dinner and snack options for purchase.
The park district is still accepting applications from interested farm market vendors, particularly those with fresh produce, flowers, breads/baked items and similar products. Vendor applications are available online.
Veteran’s Appreciation Picnic
June 14, 4:30-8 p.m.
Geauga Park District celebrates veterans on Flag Day with a special picnic to say thank you for serving our country. Veterans and a guest are welcome to enjoy food and live music with Blue Stone Union bandat Claridon Woodlands, 11383 Claridon Troy Road in Claridon Township.
Registration is required.
Fly Fishing Family Day
June 16, 1-4 p.m.
Join members of the North Coast Fly Fishers at Swine Creek Reservation as they teach the basics of fly casting, fly tying and where to look for fish. Then try your hand at catching aquatic insects in pond and stream – a great way to kick off a lifetime of angling.
Registration is not required, but a fishing license is required if you plan to wet your line.
