Great Day For Arts In Chardon
Aug. 5, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
When summer is hottest, it’s time for two great arts festivals in Chardon: Geauga Park District’s 27th annual Nature Arts Festival at Big Creek Park and the Chardon Square Association’s 38th annual Chardon Arts Festival on historic Chardon Square.
The events are connected by a free 5-minute Lolly the Trolley ride.Admission and parking are free at both.

In Big Creek Park, participating regional artists have been juried for wildlife/nature-inspired artwork that makes for a truly unique indoor/outdoor event.

West Woods Wednesdays
The remaining two summertime West Woods Wednesdays Farm Markets – a one-stop shop for all farm-fresh needs – are Aug. 8 and Sept. 12 in the picnic shelters located at 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.
On top of approved vendors providing all kinds of locally made/grown items, strolling musicians will provide ambient music – Jesse Huge in August and Rebecca Wohlever in September – plus, an onsite food truck will serve dinner and snack options for purchase.
Meteors & Moths Overnight Event
Aug. 11–12, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Observatory Park
Bring a tent and spend the night enjoying the Perseid meteor shower and the night-flying moths attracted by the park district’s black light and mercury vapor lamps at Observatory Park in Montville Township. Best meteor viewing should be 1-3 a.m.; a naturalist will be on hand from sunset to sunrise.
Nights Out In The Parks
On Aug. 11, Observatory Park hosts the final movie showing of the year, “Back to the Future,” shown on a giant inflatable screen under internationally recognized dark skies at 10610 Clay St. in Montville Township. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Themed activities and free popcorn and lemonade begin at 8 p.m., and the film starts at dark. Geauga County Public Library’s Fun Bus is also on hand.
As for live music, on Aug. 25, from 7-8:30 p.m., Big Creek Park’s Frances S. Hall Amphitheater hosts Upriver, featuring folk, Celtic and Appalachian music. The show includes refreshments and will be moved indoors in case of inclement weather.
