The entire Notre Dame Schools community celebrated NDCL’s National Blue Ribbon Award with a Blue Ribbon Bonanza on Oct. 3 for all 1,200 students enrolled in grades K-12 at Notre Dame Elementary School and NDCL.
The event featured a hamburger and hot dog cookout complete with all sorts of blue-themed treats, including Blue Moon ice cream, blue cotton candy, blue corn tortilla chips and a blue candy buffet with more than 200 pounds of sweet treats. The food service staff even created a gigantic blue ribbon rice crispy sculpture.
With everyone sporting Blue Ribbon T-shirts, NDES and NDCL students and staff streamed into Lion Stadium for a Notre Dame Schools’ group photo that spelled out the word LIONS. NDES won the Blue Ribbon Award in 2014. Together, NDES and NDCL now form a Blue Ribbon campus.
“To paraphrase the opening line of our alma mater, Monday’s announcement of our Blue Ribbon Award and Wednesday’s Blue Ribbon Bonanza were certainly memories of our high school days that will bring joy for years to come,” said Principal Joseph A. Waler. “Our students and staff really enjoyed this exciting week. I could sense the ‘Blue Ribbon Buzz’ everywhere I went, especially at our very successful family open house on Wednesday night. I know Monday and Wednesday were two of the best days of my career — and my life!”
Mr. Waler will join Notre Dame Schools President Michael Bates and a member of the faculty at the Blue Ribbon Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 7-8. Many faculty and staff members plan to travel to Washington for the celebration.
