Next Step Wine Tasting Fundraiser

The Next Step Advisory Board, a nonprofit organization formed to support and transition at-risk youth, is hosting a wine tasting fundraiser at Colonial Wine & Beverage, 8389 Mayfield Road in Chester Township. Event includes a buffet dinner, silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

Walk-In Immunization Clinic

Nov. 5, 1-5 p.m.

The Geauga County Health District, in partnership with University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, is holding a walk-in clinic for children ages two months to 18 years old.

The clinic will be available to children who are underinsured, without insurance or have Medicaid at Middlefield First United Methodist Church, 14999 S. State Ave., Middlefield. Please bring the child’s immunization records.

Register for Nutrition Classes

The Northeast Ohio Institute of Functional Medicine, located at 8398 Kinsman Road in Russell Township, will be holding two free classes that are free and open to the public.

“Gluten-Free Eating” will be held from Nov. 15 from 6:30-8 p.m. Nutritionist Bob Iafelice will talk about gluten, its effect on the body and how to avoid gluten and still eat healthy. Samples of the newest gluten-free bars will be provided.

“Nutritional Strategies for Cold and Flu Season” will be offered Dec. 13 from 6:30-8 p.m. Iafelice will talk about how to build up the immune system naturally so that it is ready to fight off all the winter germs.

Help for Mental Illness

Geauga County National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers support, education and advocacy for those affected by mental illness.

Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour training that gives people the tools to identify when someone might be struggling with a mental health or substance abuse problem and to connect them with the appropriate support and resources when needed. It will be held Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the NAMI community room, 107 South St., Suite 6, Chardon. Cost is $40 and includes all materials and food.

Family support facilitator training will be offered Nov. 2-4 at NAMI Greater Cleveland Office, 2012 W. 25th St., Suite 600 in Cleveland. Training is Friday, 6:30-8:30 p.m.; Saturday: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
