Paper Making at Morgan Conservatory
On Oct. 25, third-graders from Mrs. Coates and Miss Heller’s class traveled to Morgan Conservatory for a school favorite, hands-on field trip. The children learned the art of paper-making and even got to make their own paper, including marble paper. Both types of paper will be used to create a collaborative art project. They also learned the process of book-binding and they each decorated and took home their own book.
NDES Book Fair
The NDES Book Fair is an annual event that is a combined effort of faculty and parents. Students visit the book fair with their friendship partners, with the older students helping the younger students as they shop. A portion of the book fair sales directly benefit the library. Thank you to the book fair chairs, Mrs. Jamie Miller and Mrs. Barbara Williams, along with Mrs. Sabrina Mysyk and Mrs. Susan Hayward.
Blue Ribbon School
Blue Ribbon Schools set themselves apart by engaging students in a variety of ways in the classroom and beyond. By offering students experiences that allow them to use their minds, hands and hearts, learning becomes more meaningful. As a result of the partnerships Notre Dame Elementary School develops with people and organizations in the community, students come to see the bigger picture and the importance of community.
Effective teaching of math includes helping students make connections by using manipulatives to deepen their understanding of concepts.
NASA Virtual Tour
Last week, NASA held a live feed with astronauts on the International Space Station. NDES robotics teams had the opportunity to interact with them and ask questions about what is being researched as it applies to their First Lego League projects. The researchers in the NASA Veggie Project did a virtual tour of their lab then sat down and answered questions that were submitted on Twitter. One of the questions from the NDES students was the first question addressed.
