Finance Committee

The Cardinal Board of Education is looking for two or three community members and business owners to join the district’s Finance Advisory Committee. The committee meets up to six times throughout the year to review and discuss the various financial aspects of the district, such as monthly and yearly financial reports, the five-year forecast, the permanent appropriations and levy issues. The goal is to learn and understand the issues that are impacting the Cardinal Local School District and help to educate the community on those issues.

Anyone interested in joining the committee may send a letter of interest to Merry Lou Knuckles, Treasurer at PO Box 188, Middlefield, OH 44062 by Dec. 21.

Students Place In Speech Competition

On Oct. 27, Cardinal students Gene H., John K. and Matthew M. competed at the GlenOak JV Fall Forensic Frolic Speech and Debate Competition. John competed in the Original Oratory category, while Gene and Matthew took third place working as a team in the Policy Debate category. It was a great experience for these members of the newly formed Cardinal High School Speech and Debate Team.

Opinion Featured On PBS

Every year at Jordak, the fourth-graders watch the WVIZ/PBS ideastream program “Newsdepth” and send in editorials to the program on a particular topic they discuss. The program then chooses a few responses from all received to feature on an upcoming program.

On a recent program, Ivy K. had her opinion on promoting free rec and school sports featured as a response to the topic of “If you could write a large number of letters to the general public about an issue, what topic would you write about and why?”

Ivy said, “I would promote free rec and school sports so families could enjoy the game and not worry about paying money. It would also allow families to buy better sport supplies. I myself play sports and it costs a lot of money just to sign up.”
