Volunteer Support Group Facilitator Needed

The Alzheimer’s Association is looking for a volunteer, or a pair of volunteers, to serve as a support group facilitator for the Chardon evening group that meets the third Wednesday of the month from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Church of St. Mary, 401 North St., Chardon.

Support group facilitators provide a safe environment for caregivers, family and friends to share feelings, needs and concerns as well as develop a support system in an open gathering and exchange practical information and solutions for those caring for persons with dementia or cognitive impairment.

Personal or professional experience as a dementia caregiver is preferred, but not required. Training is provided.

Help For Mental Illness

Geauga County National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers support, education and advocacy for those affected by mental illness. Programs meet at the NAMI Geauga office located at 8389 Mayfield Road, Suite A-2 in Chester Township and are at no cost to participants. Registration is required. Family-to-Family is a free educational program for family members, partners and friends of individuals with mental illness. The 12-week class will meet Thursdays, beginning Jan. 24, from 6-8:30 p.m.,

NAMI Basics is a free, six-week education program for parents and caregivers of youth under the age of 22 who are experiencing mental health challenges. Class begins Jan. 22 at 4 p.m.

Growth Through Grief support group is designed to guide loved ones through their journey to find hope and healing after suicide and other traumatic deaths. The groups meet Wednesdays from 7-8:30 p.m. Weeks one and three are for teens ages 12-18 years who are struggling with loss due to traumatic death. Week two is for adults or youth agers 6-12 years who are struggling with loss due to suicide. Week four is for adults or youth agers 6-12 years who are struggling with loss due to traumatic death.
