COSI Columbus’ Dynamic Hands-On Science Center energized elementary students when they brought their assembly and hands-on experiments to Jordak Elementary School Feb. 28 and March 1.
Following an assembly on the science of energy, students then were able to spend some time traveling to nearly a dozen stations to do their own experiments with energy. Each station was led by an adult volunteer and students were able to transfer energy, identify conductors and insulators, build circuits, experiment with friction, generate light with a hand crank, explore sound waves and discover how weight, height and friction affect movement. It is one of everyone’s favorite events each year and the district is grateful to the volunteers and the Jordak PTO for making it possible for the students.
CMS Students Compete In Math Competition
Two teams of fifth-grade students from Cardinal Middle School gave up their Saturday morning on Feb. 23 to compete in the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GCCTM) competition held at Garfield Schools in Garrettsville.
The purpose of the competition is to stimulate interest and fun in mathematics among middle school students. Students have an opportunity to apply their knowledge and a chance to meet other students with similar interests. The events in the competition involve mental math problems, construction scenarios and problem solving situations. In addition to the math content involved, students learned that dedication, communication and teamwork were key to being successful.
Huskies that participated were Riley H., Emma C., Alyssa D., Zoey H., Elisabeth M., Emma S., Grayson Y. and Oliver K.
