FBLA Lions Qualify for Nationals
Three members of NDCL’s chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) qualified for national competition by finishing first or second against competitors from throughout Ohio at the FBLA Leadership Conference at The Ohio State University on March 14 and 15.
Junior Pierce Thomas took first place in the impromptu speaking contest. Classmate Emily Callahan earned the second-place medal in political science, while senior Anna Egensperger finished second in the job-interview competition.
Other awards included junior Robert Tamburrino, fourth place in accounting; seniors Matthew Montazzoli and Sam Myers, fourth place in emerging business issues; juniors Steven Pirc and Dylan Preseren, sixth place in entrepreneurship; juniors Nick Balogh, Harmond Richardsonand Pierce Thomas, eighth place in sports and entertainment management; and senior Anna Deegan, eighth place in accounting.
This year’s FBLA state conference included a series of nearly 70 competitive events as well as workshops and seminars on business-related topics. Business department chairperson and FBLA adviserJean Getz accompanied the students to Columbus.
Top Artists Recognized
Out of 11,500 entries from throughout the state, two works by NDCL student artists are among just 300 selected for the 49th annual Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition in Columbus.
A photograph by junior Grace Jaworski and an acrylic painting by senior Katie Lee will be displayed in the prestigious exhibition at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus from April 22 to May 16. Students will receive Awards of Excellence during ceremonies on May 5.
Grace, who also had a work selected for last year’s exhibition, is an advanced photography student of art teacherGeorge Yaniga. Katie is a student in art department chairpersonMary Ann Sedivy’s Advanced Placement Studio Art course.
The Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition is dedicated to the educational and artistic advancement of talented young people in the state. The exhibition is open to all of Ohio’s 1,112 high schools, both public and private, chartered by the State of Ohio Department of Education.
Judges for the competition are professional artists and college professors from all over the country. More than 30 universities and colleges of art will offer scholarships to seniors in the exhibition.
