Historical Society Visits Gurney 3rd-Graders
Third-graders at Gurney Elementary School enjoy the annual visit from members of the Chagrin Falls Historical Society. This past month, former Gurney Elementary School teacher Harriet Bakalar, along with Kathryn Kanzinger, taught the students about Chagrin Falls’ history.
They discussed the history of the mills and dams in Chagrin Falls and brought century-old artifacts for the students to observe, explaining to the children what school was like 100 years ago. The students always enjoy hearing about life long ago and the history of the town in which they live.
Kindergartners Visit Patterson Farms
Kindergarten classes at Gurney Elementary School traveled to Patterson’s Fruit Farm in Chester Township and toured the market. Students saw more than 15 kinds of apples, visited with Johnny Appleseed, learned about apple picking equipment in the orchard, tasted fresh apple cider and even went inside the apple refrigerator. The field trip is connected to their current science unit of the apple life cycle.
