Chagrin Falls High School junior Maris Walter and sophomore Avery Shinkawa were selected from more than 190 high school band students to perform on the field with the Kent State University (KSU) Marching Band on Oct. 26.

Chagrin Falls High School junior Maris Walter and sophomore Avery Shinkawa were selected from more than 190 high school band students to perform on the field with the Kent State University (KSU) Marching Band on Oct. 26. The students joined the KSU band with the Halloween favorite, “The Monster Mash.” Students rehearsed before the game with the KSU band and sat with the band during the game.

Maris said, “That was a little cold and really wet, but it was so nice to get to be with my sister on the field.”

Tigers of the Month

The Student of the Month award at Chagrin Falls Middle School acknowledges students for their outstanding performance and rewards them for their efforts. The students were chosen by seventh and eighth-grade teams to be a “Tiger of the Month.” These students exemplify the Tiger Techniques of Think, Integrity, Grit, Effort, and Responsibility.

September’s Tigers of the Month were Claire Guddy, Jack Cencula, Sophie Hill and Owen Denton.

Seventh-grader Claire Guddy is always curious, ready to learn, gives her all to the task at hand and is on top of all she does. She is also very kind and helpful to others. Claire has shown leadership by encouraging other students to attempt extra work to prepare for their classes. She is helpful to all students when the class is doing group activities and to those around her when we are working independently. Claire is an enthusiastic learner. She is always positive and an active participant.

Jack Cencula is a seventh-grader who is a great leader in science class. He is always helping the other students and his teacher. He also is doing a great job as a student council representative. The questions Jack asks in class about his practice problems have been very thought provoking.

Eighth-grader Sophie Hill brings a boost of enthusiasm and intellect to her team and the whole class every day. She takes the time to revise her work in order to make it the best product possible and her enthusiasm for learning is contagious.

Owen Denton is an eighth-grader who is excited to learn, confident and takes ownership of his own learning. Owen is an excellent bass player and leader in the eighth grade orchestra. He comes to class every day with a positive attitude and is always willing to help others. Owen is always kind, punctual, willing to help his classmates and his teacher. He has a positive attitude for learning and is overall, an ideal student.

 

October’s Tigers of the Month were Aiden Cabic, Libby Cain, Audrey Holmes and Kai De Leon.

Eighth-grader Aiden Cabic is an outstanding viola player in the eighth-grade orchestra. He always comes to class with a positive attitude and is willing to help others. Aiden leads by example in all of his classes by coming prepared, engaging in class discussions, and quickly grasping concepts. Aiden has made several important observations and is talented at sharing his insights with the class. Agreeably working with any student in the class and with adults has earned Aiden the respect of the staff and his peers for his kindness. He is a leader both academically and in character.

Libby Cain is an eighth-grader who always comes to class prepared and excited to learn. She is attentive and consistently sets a good example for her peers both in and out of class, and she takes great care to be sure her practice work is excellent. Outside of class, Libby is busy. She can be found attending Zoo games, is a member of the Speech and Debate team, attends Student Council meetings, leads the PAC and contacts local businesses. She travels around town, writes letters and makes phone calls in order to gather a great variety of prizes for the dances. All of the gift certificates and large prizes for the Halloween dance have been brought in by Libby. She successfully gathered over $250 worth of prizes for students because of her warm, conscientious and hard-working leadership.

Seventh-grader Audrey Holmes has an outstanding attitude and demonstrates leadership qualities both inside and outside the classroom. She is a leader in class, asking great questions and observing alternate problem-solving strategies. She is an active participant in Socratic Seminars and is a dedicated member of Speech and Debate. Audrey is always upbeat and prepared and is a dream to have in social studies. Her teachers thoroughly enjoy her positive attitude and her inquisitive nature. She is not only an excellent student, but also kind and positive in both teacher and student interactions. Audrey is very inquisitive in science. She is always thinking beyond the topic at hand. She is an all around great seventh-grade science student.

Seventh-grader Kai De Leon is very polite and hardworking. He greets his teachers and classmates each day and always comes to class prepared and ready to learn. Kai is a quiet leader who demonstrates integrity and has a positive attitude in class and team activities or assignments. He is a diligent participant in Socratic Seminars and is a deep analyzer of ideas in speaking and writing. Kai is a joy to have in social studies. He is a wonderful participant in class discussions and his work is thoughtful and complete. Kai is a pleasure to have in science class as well. He is always kind and helpful to others. He is a nice addition to the trumpet section in band. As a student, he is always on the mark regardless of the situation. This is a well-deserved honor for Kai. He has done well since he moved to Chagrin last year and has made many friends.
