Monarchs
Jordak Elementary School third-graders were excited to have a naturalist from the Geauga Park District come speak to them about Monarch’s on the Move. Scholars learned all about the life cycle of the monarch butterfly and how it is one of the few insects that migrates south to Mexico for the winter. GPD also explained how tagging the butterflies helps scientists learn more about their long migration journey.
Anatomy
High school students in Mr. Ben Clutter’s college credit plus anatomy class recently worked with bones from a cow’s knee to get a better look at synovial joints. The lab helped them better understand the anatomical structure of a knee.
In addition, scholars are also learning about how the nervous system works and are presenting findings to their peers on action potentials, muscle wave summation and the sliding filament theory.
Trunk Or Treat
The JES PTO’s first Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 10 was a huge success. Dozens of “trunkers” filled the parking lot to pass out candy to the families that attended. In addition to trunk or treating, families could play games, get their faces painted, take photos and bob for apples.
Winners of the costume contest were as follows: Scariest costume – “Creepy Clown” Gage F.; Funniest Costume – The Bearded Lady Ali F. bearded lady; Most Creative – The Greatest Showman Will F.
The Best Trunk Award went to the district’s transportation department who decorated an entire bus with spiders and webs.
Thank you to Blue Jay Orchard Farms for donating apples and to Mylite and Nauvoo Family Market for donating donut holes.
