Spanish Stars

Spanish 1 students recently worked with the STARS scholars at Cardinal High School. Recently, Senora Ipce Flores had her students create animal books all in Spanish. Then, they visited the STARS class to read their stories. Everyone had a great time interacting, sharing their stories and learning more about the Spanish language.

Tropf Tour

It’s always fascinating to look back in time to see how communities have grown and changed. The concept is the current focus of third-grade social studies.

To help drive home the point, teacher Barb Tropf took her class on a tour of downtown Middlefield to discuss and show how things have changed over the years. The nine-stop tour took around an hour and included stops at the old Webster Johnson Farm (current Municipal Center), the bike path and fountain for looks back at the B&O Railroad that used to come through town, then on to CVS, where the hotel and Fritinger Feed Co. were, the Century Inn, the Depot and mural at the corner of routes 608 and 87.

At each stop, Ms. Tropf used pictures and articles written by Rick Seyer for the Middlefield Post as her source of information. Scholars were able to compare pictures of each corner of downtown from past to present and were able to recognize buildings from the past in the mural. A special thanks to the Jordak PTO who paid for the photos to be enlarged so scholars could better see the changes over time.

The third-graders enjoyed the trip down memory lane and were fascinated to see the different way of life.
