The gas station chain reopened April 7 for customers who pump gas and pay with a credit or debit card. But the inside store remained closed.
The Chardon Sheetz was closed March 30 because an employee at the 435 Water Street location tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement from the company.
The gas station chain reopened April 7 for customers who pump gas and pay with a credit or debit card. But the inside store remained closed.
An employee there stocking ice said Sheetz would likely reopen by the end of this week.
“Because of this positive test, this store location is closed immediately and will be professionally deep cleaned and disinfected,” the original release stated. “Our gas pumps will also be sanitized and cleaned.”
Geauga County Health Commissioner Tom Quade said the health department does not release the location of positive tests, but said it’s common for employees to notify their employers.
“It reminds us we don’t always see it, but it’s ubiquitous,” Quade said. “For every one person, there are 10 others that are asympomatic. That’s why everyone needs to tread carefully.”
“We are working with employees who may have had close contact with this employee,” the release stated. “We are also following guidelines set by the Ohio Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. All employees will be fully paid while this store remains closed.”
The location will not reopen until it has ensured all steps have been taken to protect the community, the release stated.
“Your safety is our top priority and that will continue to be our first thought as we join the nation in navigating this unprecedented health crisis,” the release stated.
