The Chardon Schools Board of Education voted 4-1 May 18 to approve the district’s 2027-28 school calendar, opting to maintain a mid-August start date despite months of community discussion advocating for a post-Labor Day start.

The Chardon Schools Board of Education voted 4-1 May 18 to approve the district’s 2027-28 school calendar, opting to maintain a mid-August start date despite months of community discussion advocating for a post-Labor Day start. Board member Ash Galhotra cast the sole dissenting vote. The decision followed a petition launched in February by local parent Genny Pavlick urging the district to adopt a later start date. At the time of writing, the petition had collected 824 signatures.
