Director of Technology Receives International Award

Mike Daugherty, director of technology and information systems for Chagrin Falls Schools, has won the 2020 ISTE Technology Coordinator of the Year Award.

The award is presented by the International Society for Technology Education (ISTE), an international group of educators who work to inspire the creation of solutions and connections that improve opportunities for all learners. The ISTE Technology Coordinators Personal Learning Network notified Daugherty that he had been chosen as the recipient. This network consists of chief technology officers, directors of technology, directors of instructional technology, technology coordinators and other leaders in educational technology.

The director of institutional technology for the Pickerington Local School District wrote in the notification email to Daugherty saying, “Your submission clearly demonstrates the outstanding contributions you’ve made to leadership in educational technology, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize you for these contributions.”

As a recipient of the award, Daugherty will be recognized at the 2020 ISTE Conference and Expo in Anaheim. He will also be recognized on the ISTE website and receive a plaque, $100 in prize money and a free membership to ISTE for one year.

Students Receive Excel TECC Awards

The juniors and seniors at Chagrin Falls High School who participate in the Excel TECC program have received awards for the 2019-20 school year. The Excel TECC program is a career preparatory program that aims to prepare students for a four-year college, two-year technical school or a career in the field of their choice.

There are 22 programs available for students in eight school districts throughout Ohio. When students study the core subjects such as math, English and science, the subject matter is related to the student’s career choice. The TECC program allows students to learn job skills along with these subjects.

This year, there are 10 CFHS students who received awards for their participation in Excel TECC. Senior Ruby Brandon studied in the Performing Arts Academy program and received the Excel TECC Outstanding Senior Award. Senior Anna Buescher studied in the Performing Arts Academy program and earned the Excel TECC Departmental Senior Award.

Senior Kaitlyn Castelluccio was in the Teaching program and won the Excel TECC Departmental Senior Award. Junior Elle Moore was in the Medical Technologies program and won the National Technical Honor Society Inductee Award and the Excel TECC Departmental Junior Award. Senior Adriana Fant studied in the Cosmetology program and won the Excel TECC Outstanding Senior Award. Junior Ryan Harbaugh studied in the Performing Arts Academy program and won the Excel TECC Departmental Junior Award.

Junior Joshua Marting studied in the Business Academy and earned the National Technical Honor Society Inductee Award, was a member of the third place team at the DECA District and Financial Services State Qualifier competition, and was a member of the first place team in the Veale Foundation Think Big Summit competition. Junior Kailin Edwards studied in the Medical Technologies program and earned the National Technical Honor Society Inductee Award.

Senior Geneva McGinnis studied in the Licensed Practical Nursing program and earned the Excel TECC Departmental Senior Award. Finally, Senior Alexia Monteux Arraiza, who studied in the Culinary Arts Program, was a member of the Silver Medalist team in the FCCLA Regional competition.

The award recipients will receive program certificates and a send-off commemorative booklet in the mail.
