Kenston Schools bid a heartfelt farewell to 11 employees retiring this school year. The retirees have collectively served the district for over 250 years. The district is grateful for their dedication to students, parents, staff and community.
Retiring this year are: Dale Ausperk, bus driver – 16 years of service; Joe Belsan, lead mechanic – eight years of service; Pat Brockway, KMS principal and curriculum coordinator for virtual Learning (January) – 21 years of service; Ronnie “Mr. C” Continenza, KHS business/web design teacher – 25 years of service; Jackie England, KIS administrative assistant – 23 years of service; Lynn Fagerholm, KMS science teacher – 37 years of service; Christine Ganoe, KHS consumer science teacher – 18 years of service; Chris Maistros, TES physical education teacher – 27 years of service; Rita Pressman, grades 6-12 special education director – 22 years of service; Suzanne Skoczen, KMS educational aide – 20 years of service; and Linda Sliwinski, KMS administrative assistant – 33 years of service.
Presidential Education Awards
The President’s Education Awards Program was founded in 1983 on behalf of the President of the United States and the United States Secretary of Education. The purpose of the program is to recognize and honor U.S. students in elementary, middle and high school. The program has provided individual recognition from the president and the secretary of education to those students whose outstanding efforts have enabled them to meet challenging standards of excellence.
To receive the President’s Award for Educational Excellence at Kenston High School, students must meet a minimum unweighted grade point average of 3.5 while committing to a minimum number of community service hours per grade level.
Each year thousands of students are deserving of this recognition in the United States. For the 2020-21 school year, Kenston High School recognizes over 130 students. 122nd Army Band Concert
Kenston Schools will host the Ohio Army National Guard’s 122nd Army Band, Ohio’s premier military music ensemble. They will perform at free concert in the Kenston High School auditorium, 9500 Bainbridge Road, Bainbridge Township on June 28 at 7 p.m. The summer 2021 tour titled “Sea to Shining Sea” will focus on the beautiful musical melting pot of America.
Since 1944, the Ohio National Guard’s 122nd Army Band has been a staple of the musical tradition of the United States military in Ohio. Members from every corner of the state and beyond are charged with carrying out the mission of increasing troop morale and maintaining the vital link between the public and the Ohio Army National Guard. The 122nd performs in dozens of concerts, ceremonies and other functions each year.
Band members spend a significant amount of time during the year preparing a summer performance schedule, all while only assembling as a unit for one weekend a month and for two weeks in the summer. Yet, the band still performs a repertoire that allows the audience to hear the full breath of talent of the 122nd’s members in a concert setting.
