KMS Student of the Month
Kenston Middle School recognized its Students of the Month for November. They were sixth-graders Nico Fiore, Stella Loveland, Sofiya Pavlova and Samuel Spencer; seventh-graders Brooklyn Alexander, Charlie McMicken, Corrina Shirdon and Anthony Tomaselli; and eighth-graders Jasmine DeJarnette, Cullen Fehring, Morgan Myers and William Radefeld.
Thankfully, No Turkeys
With a bit of creativity and a lot of sympathy, the kindergarten families took to the task of disguising turkeys in hopes of rescuing them from a dinner table. Kindergarten students participated in an interactive read aloud of the books, “Turkey Trouble” and “Turkey Trick or Treat” by Wendi Silvano. In the stories, the main character disguises itself to stave off hungry turkey fans. So many wonderful disguises were on display and certainly, there were no turkeys to be found.
PBIS Recognition
On Dec. 9, Timmons Elementary School will be recognized by the State of Ohio as a silver level school, with the high school receiving bronze honors in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.
PBIS is a framework focused on using evidence-based practices and a tiered system to support the academic, social, emotional and behavioral competence of all students. The essential components of PBIS include: clear expectations, comprehensive instruction, supportive structure and community connections. A consistent system of acknowledging and correcting behaviors through active supervision, proactive scheduling, logical consequences and reteaching, clear procedures for responding to behaviors and supportive environments designed to eliminate behavior triggers is also a key component of PBIS.
As building level committees continue to review data, conduct research and follow an action plan, the next step is to apply for gold level recognition. As Kenston continues its PBIS journey, families can help by reinforcing the four building-wide expectations: follow directions, speak kind words, keep body and objects to self and respect property.
