A Claridon Township believed to have suffered a medical emergency while driving was killed in a single vehicle crash Friday morning.

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Chardon post responded to a one-car crash on Claridon Troy Road, just north of U.S. 322, at approximately 7:37 a.m. Dec. 10.

A 2000 Ford pickup, which 62-year-old Mark S. Mytro of Claridon Township was driving, went off the right side of the roadway, striking a traffic sign and the ditch, according to an OSHP media release.

There was minimal damage to the pickup and the sign due to the crash.

Hambden Township EMS transported Mytro, who was the only occupant of the pickup, to University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. Once at the hospital, Mytro was pronounced dead.

Mytro was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash. The state patrol suspects he may suffered a medical emergency while driving.

The crash remains under investigation.
