NEOCAG Meeting

Sept. 10, 9:15 a.m.

The NorthEast Ohio Computer-Aided Genealogy Society will hold its monthly meeting online via Zoom. The meeting opens at 9:15 a.m., with the presentation beginning at 9:45 a.m.

Speakers Linda Debe will present “Google My Maps, Visualizing Your Ancestors’ Lives.”

St. Patrick Chinese Auction

Sept. 10, 11 a.m.

St. Patrick Church is hosting its annual Chinese auction at the church located at 16550 Rock Creek Road in Thompson Township. Doors open at 11 a.m. for the auction and a light lunch. The drawing begins at 1:30 p.m. followed by a 50/50 raffle. Winners need not be present.

An entrance fee of $2 includes six raffle tickets. Auction, high end auction and raffle tickets will be for sale.

Geauga Veterans Sports Fest

Sept. 10, 3-8 p.m.

The fourth annual Geauga Veterans Sports Fest will be held in the parking lot of Great Lakes Outdoor Supply, 14855 N. State Ave., Middlefield. Fireworks show begins at 8 p.m.

Auburn FD Clambake

Sept. 10, 6-8:30 p.m.

The Auburn Fire Department is hosting its annual clambake at the fire station located at 10950 Washington St. in Auburn Township.

Regular bake dinner costs $35 and includes a dozen clams, half a barbecue chicken, corn, yams, coleslaw, roll and beverages. Extra clams will be available for $12 per dozen, as well as hot dogs and chips for the kids.

Genealogical Society Meets

Sept. 13, 7 p.m.

The Geauga County Genealogical Society will meet in the Bostwick room of the Chardon Library, 110 E, Park St. Chardon.

Melissa Cole and Lynn Vandevort will discuss how to utilize the resources of the Anderson Allyn room, the library’s updated genealogical resource room. The program will begin after a short business meeting.

Slovenian Sausage Festival

Sept. 14, 12-8 p.m.

The National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame and Museum is hosting the 18th annual Slovenian Sausage Festival at SNPJ Farm, 10946 Heath Road, Kirtland.

Enjoy non-stop polkas and waltzes with favorite Cleveland-style bands. Sample sausages from several makers and then pick a winner. Prizes are awarded in the People’s Choice and the juried Best of Fest categories.

Fall Fish Sale

Sept. 15, 1-2:30 p.m.

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual spring fish sale will be held on the midway at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. Orders are currently being taken for fingerling-size largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill/sunfish mix, minnows, redear “shellcracker” sunfish and white amurs. Pond safety kits and farm pond management books are also available.

CV Herb Society Meets

Sept. 16, 12:30 p.m.

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library, 17222 Snyder Road.  After a social time and snacks, Jerry Moreno from the Dahlia Society will talk about dahlias.

Airport Community Day

Sept. 17

The Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 5 will host its last fly-in of the summer at the Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield.

An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be served from 7-11 a.m. Donation is $10 for adults, $5 for kids and free for children under 3.

Youth will enjoy a variety of hands-on activities including flight simulators, crafts and free Young Eagle airplane rides for ages 8-17 beginning at 8 a.m. Parental permission is required; register at youngeaglesday.org.

The event features aircraft displays and demonstrations. Bring lawn chairs. Fly-in or drive in.

Get Septic Smart

Sept. 22, 6-7:30 p.m.

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District, Geauga Public Health and Middlefield Library will host a free SepticSmart program at the Middlefield Library. Presenters Dave Resource professionals with Geauga Public Health will discuss how a home septic system works, how to maintain a home sewage treatment system and what to do when it appears to not be working properly.
