Bus Evacuation Drills
Safety and security drills are conducted throughout the year for fires, natural disasters and lockdowns. The age-appropriate drills are conducted in conjunction with our local first responders.
To start the year, students district-wide practiced three types of evacuation drills: exiting the bus from the front and back of the bus, half exiting through the front door and half exiting via the rear door, and quickly moving to a place of safety 100 feet away from the bus.
KMS Speech and Debate
Kenston Middle School’s Speech and Debate Team participated in the Middle School National Tournament in June, which was again held virtually. Congratulations to Marin Carlson, who placed 11th in the country in Declamation. Public Forum Debate partners Grace Voudris and Audrey Earl also defeated two teams from Virginia and a team from California while debating whether the United States should establish a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement with Taiwan. Congratulations to Brooke Carlson and William Radefeld for submitting speech videos to the competition and receiving excellent rankings from the judges. There were 828 students from 171 schools, including teams from India, Taiwan, Canada, Uganda and China that competed in the tournament.
