Professional Development Day
Chardon Schools hosted an all-staff professional development day on Sept. 2, marking the first district-wide PD day of the new school year. Scheduled as a no-school Friday for Hilltopper students heading into the Labor Day weekend, the PD event provided certified, administrative and classified staff with a schedule of on-campus presentations and training sessions. Time slots were also made available for staff to complete their PublicSchoolWORKS assignments online.
While year-round PD is an ongoing initiative, building scheduled PD days into the academic calendar provides a timeout from the regular school day to offer Hilltopper educators and support staff a number of enriching, organized opportunities to further grow their expertise and stay updated on the latest best practices, ultimately enhancing the school environment and furthering the educational experience for students.
The day’s presenters included several district staff members as well as guest speakers James McWeeney II, partner, Walter Haverfield; Patrick Fiorilli, executive director of the Ohio Tactical Officers Association; and Jackie Dietrich, consultant for the Educational Services Center of Northeast Ohio.
Additionally, all Hilltopper staff members attended a health insurance coverage presentation regarding cost-saving measures; biometric screenings; and how to make the most of their health benefits — just to name a few. Through ongoing training and educational sessions such as these, district finances have realized several consecutive years of health insurance plan cost containment, reflecting a responsible investment of taxpayer dollars in employee benefits.
