National Fire Prevention Week
The 2022 theme of National Fire Prevention Week is “Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape.” The Busy Bees 3-year-pld preschool class at St. Helen School enjoyed an annual visit from Lt. Jeremy Sustar from Newbury Volunteer Fire Department. During his visit, the students learned about fire safety, the importance of making a plan at home and at school during a fire and ways to be safe in an emergency. They also enjoyed being able to see all the special tools used in an ambulance.
Fall Changes
The beautiful fall colors are changing from reds to gold, with yellows and browns by their side as the St. Helen Preschool Little Hornet class explored with Geauga Park District Naturalist Dottie Drockton on the school prayer path. With the guidance of Drockton, the preschoolers were able to observe the many fall changes on their school campus with what they saw, heard and even touched. Pictured is.
Pizza and Painting
Several times a year, the junior high Spirit and Service students at St. Helen School enjoy partnering up with local businesses like Mangia! Mangia! in Newbury Township for window painting. The students come on weekends or after school to create seasonal paintings for the community to enjoy.
The Spirit and Service Club’s objective is to help serve others through action and show school spirit.
Living Rosary
The month of October is dedicated to the Rosary. Each year St. Helen School students participate in a living rosary, to honor the Blessed Mother.
In a living rosary, a person stands in place of each bead of the rosary. Last week, representatives from each class stood in place of the rosary beads to remind them that everyone is united in God’s family and as a family, everyone honors holy Mother Mary. Each of the living rosary beads led the prayer for that bead when it was their turn and gathered in the center of the gym, replicating the shape of the Rosary.
