Sixth-Grade STEM

Mrs. Sheryl Bacher’s sixth-grade STEM class worked in teams to try to figure out how to design and create a Ferris wheel that will spin on a central axis using one dowel rod, craft sticks and glue.

It was great to see the creativity in the different designs for each team. All teams presented their final builds and then reflected on what they liked, the most challenging part, and anything they wished they could have done differently.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Sixth-graders are researching and preparing a presentation about a notable person of Hispanic heritage in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. It is a full month celebration from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to recognize the influence and contributions of people with Hispanic heritage while learning about Hispanic culture.

The students were able to pick a person from a list with a full range of athletes, actors, artists, astronauts and politicians. They were surprised to see Pope Francis on the list as some did not know he is from Argentina. They also were surprised to learn painter Pablo Picasso has 25 words in his name.
