The Chardon Schools Board of Education welcomed two new and one returning board member during its organizational meeting Jan. 4.
Karen Blankenship returned to her seat on the board, where she was joined by newcomers Andrea Clark and James Midyette. Each will serve a four-year term on the board.
“(The) district is fortunate to have qualified members of the school community that are interested in serving in a leadership capacity on the board of education,” Superintendent Michael Hanlon said.
Clark, a resident of the district since 2010 and Midyette, a resident of Chardon Township since 2017, were both elected to the board in November 2023.
“Both Mrs. Clark and Mr. Midyette expressed a desire to focus their efforts on implementing the district’s Success Plan, which focuses on improving programs, services and district facilities in order to foster high levels of student achievement,” Hanlon said.
Now serving her fourth term on the board after being first elected in 2011, Blankenship was selected to serve as board president once again. Board member Todd Albright will serve as vice president.
“The district’s leadership team looks forward to working in collaboration with our board of education members to enhance the exemplary experience provided to students in Chardon Schools,” Hanlon said.
In other business, school board members were appointed to the following roles:
- Albright was selected by his colleagues to serve as legislative liaison to the Ohio School Boards Association, with Clark as his alternate;
- Midyette will attend the OSBA annual conference as a delegate, with Clark as his alternate;
- Clark will also serve as liaison to the Chardon Schools Foundation, a role previously held by Blankenship;
- Midyette was selected to represent the board before the tax and incentive review council, and as student and staff liaison for the district.
