Open year round, the shop at 14895 N. State Ave. in the plaza across from Great Lakes Outdoor Supply officially saddled up in Middlefield in September of last year.
“My dad and I had talked about opening an ice cream shop for quite a few years now, and last spring, we decided to make it a reality and begin the buildout,” said Nicole Spidalieri, referring to her father, Geauga County Commissioner Ralph Spidalieri, who is owner of Great Lakes Outdoor Supply. “We’re not a chain, just a locally-owned shop serving delicious ice cream. We specialize in serving super-premium hand-dipped ice cream, soft-serve, gourmet ice cream cakes, sundaes, milkshakes and scrumptious seasonal creations.”
Their ice cream is made from a 14% butterfat mix, 35-40% overrun, cane sugar and small farm Wisconsin milk — a blend that makes it rich, creamy and smooth.
Limited time flavors include Peppermint Stick, Egg Nog, Old Fashioned Vanilla, Zanzibar Chocolate, Super Human, Cookie Dough, Ultimate Oreo, Strawberry, Mint Avalanche, Butter Pecan, Kitty Kitty Bang Bang, Blueberry Cheesecake, Cappuccino Break, Blue Moon, Birthday Cake, Peanut Butter Cup, Exhausted Parent, Bourbon Pecan Pie, Coconut Almond Bliss, Munchie Madness, Black Cherry and Raspberry Rhapsody.
Ella Tryon, of Montville Township, said she loves the Coconut Almond Bliss and appreciates how nice and welcoming the staff is.
Other shop offerings include cinnamon glazed nuts, soft pretzels, nachos, pretzel dogs, fresh baked cookies, hot dogs, pretzel barrels and wagon wheel ice cream sandwiches.
“The ice cream at Cowboy Creamery is excellent,” said Courtney Pestyk, of Middlefield, who looks forward to her next visit.
“I had a delicious ice cream cookie sandwich that can be made with any flavor ice cream,” she said.
Pints of ice cream for takeout are $8 and cakes are also available, ordered online, and cost $34.99. They are made with Cowboy Creamery’s ice cream, a thick layer of real cake and creamy soft-serve, with nine flavor choices — Munchie Madness, Peanut Butter Cup, Birthday Cake, Exhausted Parent, Soft Serve, Death by Chocolate, Ultimate Oreo, Strawberry Shortcake and Black Cherry Chocolate.
Sundae options include Strawberry Oreo Cheesecake Barrel, Fluffernutter Barrel, Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae and Giant Banana Split; and soft serve toppings include Crunch Coat, Cotton Candy Coat, Strawberry Crunch Coat and Rainbow Sprinkles, Peanuts and Chocolate Sprinkles.
“I am so proud of my daughter and am invigorated with happiness of her desire to take on the challenges of being a new small business owner,” Ralph said. “I know my daughter and all I can say is hold on for the ride as I am positive she will take this to a whole new level.”
